The G7 countries made a joint statement on artificial intelligence (AI), deciding to create a risk-based regulatory framework for AI. Following the European Union, the United Nations, and the G20, the G7 countries have made important decisions regarding AI. The statement said that the use of AI will be encouraged to benefit from rapidly developing technology. They have decided to create a risk-based "regulatory AI".
The joint statement shared by G7 countries addressed the opportunities offered by AI tools such as ChatGPT. The countries gathered in Japan said that an international agreement is needed for AI. They also proposed taking measures regarding privacy concerns and misuse.
The written statement stated that "G7 countries are aware of the potential benefits that AI can provide to society and the economy. However, it should be recognized that careful management and supervision are required to prevent the misuse of these technologies."
Various issues related to the digital economy, including data privacy, cybersecurity, and regulation of emerging technologies, were discussed at the two-day meeting in Japan. Accordingly, the countries will encourage AI but work on a joint bill.
The G7 also discussed the privacy of data usedi n tools such as ChatGPT. It was said that an international regulation ensuring the secure transfer of data needs to be created.
Personal data could be in danger with ChatGPT. A previous study stated that companies' confidential documents could be leaked to AI. Companies using AI chatbots and other writing tools could be vulnerable to data leaks.
